View Full Version : Fast internet in Linux

Salam

I noticed that internet browsing is very fast in Linux today (my first time use of internet in Linux). It is almost three times the speed of internet in Windows. Moreover, I am using 33.6kbps here while I am using 56.6 kbps in Windows. Is this normal?

Amazing :D

Salamo 3alaikom,

Adlee: This is very normal and has many reasons. Linux is very networking ready unlike Windows (all versions). Browsers in Linux follow html standards. Many of the pages on the web do follow html standards. Many reasons contribute to this fact.

This normal with Linux, TCP/IP stack is superior to other implementations.

what's your modem?
try to download something on both windows and linux from a fast mirror and check the speed.
(example download a kernel from kernel.org)

Thats right, Linux is faster than win on the net but not in copying files.
Its not like win at all.

depends on your filesystem and if you optimized your harddisk with hdparm or not.
reiserfs is very very fast for small-mid sized files, xfs is very fast for huge files (movies, isos, etc)

Salamo 3alaikom,

Explain more what you mean by copying files. Do you mean downloading from FTPs or web sites? You are definitely wrong. Linux surpasses Windows by all means in this part. Check your HD parameters.
