Hi again,
I don't know how this thread will be filled .. since I don't know anybuddy how do Linux here in Baghdad. I think it should be (Messages about Iraq) unless there is someone posting other than me : ) hehe.
anyway .. if u want a mini-report .. then the weather is calm right now .. in fact the weather is really nice .. it's shame to be waisted on war! and I don't know how the US and Britain army will fly it's rockets !! although the resistance wont be so effective on the new advanced technology! .. anyway, I could say ~ 70% of Bgd people have left toward out cities away from the bombardment .. my neighbor is really quite since couple days, .. most of the people how have prefared to stay home have digged shelters in their own gardens .. including me! since it's not safe to stay inside nor to go outside .. we've been digging all the day and seems will sleep outside .. looks like camping!
we've lost contact to most of the cities and of course with outside countries. most people have stored dry food .. nobody knows what's gonna happen!
as for the bombardment .. it's online while still we can't feel the vibration at my neighbor yet although I could see some smokes in the sky caused by explosions.
see u soon.

Al slamu alaikum,
sorry all, but seems the communications are degredating .. I don't know why. dear mohammed, thanks for checking on me, I'm fine and Bgd is fine. the fact is I can't hold the line for more than 2 miniutes the line goes down.
so here's a mini-report although I bet u know all of it.
Bgd is more empty than yesterday even I didn't hear a single car pass by, I lost contact with most of my friends, seems to me most of them left outside Bgd too although some people came back to check on their houses especially after this calm air-led attack. Yesterday I stepped up to the roof, which is a stupid thing to do but I had to!, to see where the rocket were aiming and also saw black smokes coming up from Al Karada region, it sounded like Cruz attack, we counted 8 of them and I could say the resistance wasn't like that at the 1991. Today the gov announced huge money for how takes down anemy .. which I don't know what to say about!

alsalmu alaikum,
I bet u've watched all the news up to date but certainly haven't feel the vibration of missle stricks. and honestly I wish that nobody does. yesterday the bombardmant was real heavy .. In fact I've just signed in while the air-strick started so I was forced to logout .. since the monitor didn't stay fix! anyway I saw 3 missles with my eyes while I kept hearing thier sounds all the night in which 2 went from above my hous .. and that's not a lie! since most of Iraqi people saw exactly the same scene and for many years. They were so close .. since they were near thier targets in which to be sticked. Also we saw heavy smokes coming up, and after the second air-led attack .. we smelt a burning smell which was suspended in air untill this morning.
I can't tell .. but seems to me that tonight .. the strick will be more heavier.
About that US pilot, I can assure u that he jumped from his air-jet fighter, but can't tell why .. sure he kept running while 200 people tried to catch him, most of them were civilians but I did't saw this with my eyes .. my uncle did! and I don't know what happened to him.
Internet is going on and off, but email recieve has stopped while we still have the ability to send emails. Alarms are not goinng on anymore as they are since hours.
okay .. I'm under fire now!

Any sites you can't reach that we could summarise here?
ASH
Dear all,
we are fine although the news says that the US is wipping us! .. the fact is the US army is avoiding the main cities to not cause large civilian casualities .. though I can't give specific details about all the situations all over the country .. I'm writting from my own site from my home ..
yesterday night, my neighbour had a hassle while one women said she saw a pilot landing with his parashoot .. but they never found him .. so the conclution is ....... ! terrified woman because of a flying nilon bag maybe!
anyway nobody can be sure .. but for me .. I would say there was nothing since I was standing in the street while this woman started to shout while I heard no explosion or anything like that!
as for the rest of Bgd regions .. I would say it's not like before .. nobody could stay out after 10 pm.
also the day before yesterday a missle hit one of the civilian houses .. the neighbours says it was empty .. not hosted by civilians anyway! .. so I leave the rest for u to conclude and please conclude right!!! do I need to be more clear?!

Dear all,
sorry for not posting for long time, but the situation was a bit hard here and I'm sure every body know as you watch the news. I wrote 3 long essay-like till now but didn't seem right to post it then.
As for now, it seems there is no definit black or white .. there is only gray where you cannot judge events or distinguish or relate it to specific actions that toke place here in Iraq! everything is blurry.
As you have seen from the last brutal bombing at Al Najaf Al Ashraf city, third parties which are the benefitiares from the messy situation here are really doing it's best .. while this doesn't restrict one of the main parties to be contributing with someone else in order to get things straight for them as well which of course wont be useful to Iraq people! Knowing that "Iraqi civilian" don't fall into any catogary while Saddam loyalists and coallition forces come as the first and second terminals in the game .. but there are many other hidden clans working in the background.
And to be honest, nobody knows what is going on here anymore ..
A friend of mine from Al Najaf said " we could smell the blood ! " this is how big and tragic the explosion is ! .. while I can't describe the situation right now .. I'm sure you've seen enough on TV,
I feel sorry for my people and I feel sorry for my self for such big loss we had in one day! although it's not in the number of people killed but in the weight of the tragidy in it's whole.
Know that the iraqi people strongly blame the coallition forces as they couldn't keep the security situation under control and they blame them for putting too many constrains on the transitional committee .. especially regarding the security issue ..
sorry I can't be online for too long,
thanks,
Ashraf

Dear all,
and dear mborn,
I will not stop writing (insha'allah) .. but I might not send regularly unfortunately. Also, I would very much like to participate in posting something regarding Linux .. not only news regarding Iraq crisis, I can't find the time to use Linux but certainly I'm working on it and reading about it's features every now and then .. to be honest .. it became my bed-time story these days! .. LOL!
I'm still committed to share this COOL piece of soft-ware although it's not soft at all .. it's rigid as a rock! well .. in my opinion! share it here in Iraq and try to attract people and colleuges to use it although it's a hard thing to change people thoughts!
Anyway, as for Iraq .. which is not so far from news channels, I'm not sure if you heard .. but many NGO's and private sector parties are leaving due to the latest events toke place here. I don't blame them .. and they can not work in a hostile environment while Iraqi people are far away from being hostile at all.
Many non-iraqi origin has been captured by the Gaurds assigned by Al Hauza Al 3elmia at the gates of some wholy places, as they were trying to blow-up them selves. One of the events was capturing two men hanging explosive belts under their cloths at the gates of Al Emam Al Kadhum (3laih Al Salam) and they where using a child and a woman as a cover. Many sources confirmed this event.
I'll be sending again insha'allah,
thanks

Dear all,
sorry for being off for this long .. guess I hold some news by now! you guess right!
The bad news is I'm back!
The good news is .. we had our First Introductory Linux Seminar at Al Nahrain University couple days ago. I'm supposed to write a review soon but don't have time really. So, it went okay, covered the Open-Source history, benefits, core features, and reached security as well. The seminar included a practical demonstration on installing Mandrake Linux 9.2 on a computer infront of the attendees as a dual system with MSWindows. The seminar was prepare with the help and contribution of two of my colleagues, Hasanen Nawfel, a Linux geek, and Sarmed Saad who prepared the documents on Linux and security for the Seminar.
A copy of Mandrake Move CD was distributed with a fact sheet on how to operate Mandrake Move on a pc.
Anyways, I thought writing something while I have some time.
Nice to be back guys.
Thanks,
Ashraf
