View Full Version : glibc problem

maslan
some programs requires a newer glibc than i have
(i'm using mdk9.0) & when i try to install a newer 1
the whole os wouldn't work because mdk has build the
release of the progs that come with mdk 9.0 on that
glibc .

so is there is a method to install both of them ?

bye

The programs that were built on the old glibc won't run on the new one ????? I doubt ...

just backup ur system & try :)
or .. you can get MDK 9.1 if it has the newer glibc... (I have no idea).

alaa
so you are trying to install packages made for Manrake 9.1 to a Mandrake 9.0 system right??

you'll have to upgade all the package dependecies which probably means you'll have to upgrade lots of packages.

so you best bet is to either define a Mandrake 9.1 source repositry (ftp or from CDs) or to upgrade completley 9.1

Alaa

maslan
i cann't make an update or install 9.1 now coz i've important
things on my pc now ,in addition i will buy a new computer
so i will install mdk linux 9.1 then.
thnx all
:D

alaa
well then you'd better not install packages made for 9.1

cheers,
Alaa

maslan
but exactly i didn't.
i donwload it from gnu ftp site not mandrake
ma 3alena

get a source based distro, will be much easier to upgrade glibc, just upgrade it and make it recompile everything ;)

peace

maslan
:)
thanks i will try

alaa
why is it important to upgrade your glibc??

maslan
because some progs. require it
as hbasic & gambas
& some other RPmBuilders
:)

alaa
your compiling them from source and they need a different glibc version!!!
I don't beleive it.

Alaa

A program compiled against old versions of glibc should work fine with newer versions.
But programs compiled against new versions won't run with older ones!

maslan
that's right uniball

4 example anjuta didn't run even i get is as a rpm !

uniball
It has nothing to do with RPM
The note here is that the contents of the RPM are compiled against a newer glibc than you have.
