View Full Version : Problem in shutting down my machine.
jo-jo
Hi i have Slackware9.0 , In KDE or Gnome when i log out there is no choice of shutting down or halting the machine , How can i add this option ??
And when i typed in consol :- (shutdown -h now )
It gave me some lines ended by ( power down )
And i hear a sound from the case but it is not turning off!!!!
Every time i have to hit the power button in the case ....
Another problem please , each about 20 minutes i found the screen goes black and then come back again , Nothing happened but that aint feel comfortable ..
Thanks :D

Salamo 3alaikom,
Ya Jo-jo, I think this is due to gdm configuration done by Slackware by default. I don't know if you are or not using gdm. I suggest you try the following. As root type gdmconfig in a console. Try to search for an option for adding a shutdown in gdm. I don't know much about Kdm.

Salamo 3alaikom,
Do you see a system menu in gdm or not?

About the black screen there is two possible thing
1- apm (adv power managment) is configer to do so, this is used to save power
2- a blank screen server (try use other X screen server)
-----
when it say power down it mean it's now safe to turn off the computer (old computer can't turn off automaticlly)
check your BIOS power managment see if it's enabled
see the configeration of apm and gdm
let any member email you the config files (I'm using runlevel 2/3 all the time so I don't have the files)

I am using mandrake 9.0 and I had a problem that when I logged out I didnt have the choice "shut down "
so I wrote in the command line "halt" and the computer shut down but I didnt know how to recover the choice back while logging out

No APM support in kernel
root@darkstar:/home/tux#
