Prison authorities prevented Lawyer Gamal Eid from visiting his client Mohammed Al Sharkawy yesterday (Monday the 17th) even though state security prosecutor issued a visit permit, after much deliberation they allowed him to see Karim Al Shaer only.

According to Gamal Eid, Karim's right Arm was injured by a switch blade after a criminal inmate attacked him, Karim suspects the attack was arranged by police officers. Karim is being detained in the infamous 12a cell, where acts of violence are quite common.

Today Lawyer Rajia Omran was prevented from visiting both Mohammed Sharkawy and Karim Al Shaer despite having another permit from state security prosecutor, she filed a complaint with Maadi district prosecutor accusing officer Ayman Ra'fat and the prison Sherif of denying the prisoners their basic constitutional rights and obstructing a decision taken by a judiciary body.

بالأمس (الأثنين 17) منعت ادارة السجن المحامي جمال عبد العزيز عيد من زيارة محمد الشرقاوي رغم حصوله على تصريح زيارة من نيابة أمن الدولة و سمح له بعد عناء بزيارة كريم الشاعر فقط.

وفقا لجمال عيد فكريم مصاب في ذراعه الأيمن بجرح غائر نتيجة تعدي أحد المساجين الجنائيين عليه بمطواة، و يشك كريم في أن ظباط المباحث قاموا بتحريض المسجون الجنائي، يذكر أن كريم محتجز في زنزانة 12أ و هي زنزانة سيئة السمعة و عانى فيها الزملاء الذين احتجزوا بها في الأسابيع الأولي و كان قرار الاضراب عن الطعام أساسا محاولة لنقل الزملاء من تلك الزنزانة.

A member of the security apparatus at Tora Mahkoom prison where Kefaya activist Mohamed Sharkawy (member of youth for change) is being held in detention, has threatened him with murder, he was told that it would be really simple to inject him with a contaminated syringe and claim his death had been caused by some natural disease.

Sharkawy is being targeted by prison authorities, his hours out of his cell are shorter than those of other prisoners, detainees charged with criminal offences harass him at the instigation of state security, those who are friendly with him are themselves harassed, and he is being kept from sharing a cell with Kareem El-Shaer or even communicate with him.

Friends and family who have visited Sharkawy are deeply concerned for him, even if these threats are not serious they constitute a form of psychological torture.

Background: Mohamed Sharkawy was arrested for demonstrating in support of Egypt's reformist judges. He has now been in detention for 90 days. While being arrested he was beaten up and sexually violated by state security officers.

يتعرض محمد الشرقاوى ناشط بشباب من أجل التغيير والمقبوض عليه منذ 24 ابريل الماضى ، الى تهديدات بالقتل من المخبر الذى يشرف على حراسته داخل زنزاته بسجن المحكوم بسجن طره ، حيث حرم الشرقاوى من الخروج من الزنزانة دون باقى المساجين ، وقال له المخبر التابع لمباحث امن الدولة داخل السجن " ممكن نخلص منك بابرة معفنة من الحمام ويجيلك اى مرض يقضى عليك " ، ويلقى الشرقاوى معاملة تعسفية منذ خروج باقى المعتقلين ، خاصة وانه تم عزله عن كريم الشاعر منذ اخر تجديد لهما .

واضاف الشرقاوى اثناء زيارته فى يوم 10 يوليو " انه يتعرض الى مضايقات من قبل بعض الجنائين بايعاز من ضباط المباحث ، وانه تم تكدير احد الجنائيين المتعاطفين مع الشرقاوى كتهديد لكل من يتعاون او يتعاطف معه " ، والشرقاوى المسجون الان داخل زنزانته على ذمة قضية احداث التضامن مع القضاة ، محبوس احتياطيا قرابة الـ 90 يوم !!

الجدير بالذكر ان محمد الشرقاوى قد تعرض لانتهاكات جسدية وجنسية عنيفة خلال اعتقاله للمرة الثانية فى 25 مايو الماضى عقب الافراج عنه فى 23 مايو الماضى .

واكد عدد من زوار الشرقاوى انه يعانى من حالة نفسية سيئة نتيجة هذه الممارسات والمضايقات الامنية ، التى تمنع الشرقاوى من رؤية كريم الشاعر الموجود معه فى سجن المحكوم .
