come on it was a freaking joke, obviously.

it is normal for the jury prize and the audience prize to be different, it happens, the three blogs that the jury shortlisted all got low votes.

but it is a bit funny that manalaa was the last in the vote yet won the jury prize, since I always make jokes on elitism, I thought it would be funny to pretend to adopt an elitist attitude.

sheesh I hate explaining jokes.

أحة دوش القلة طلعوا مصيبة، أكبر مثال على ليه الاعلام التقليدي المفروض يروح و يسيب النت للي بيفهموا.

موضوع شهدي ممكن يتكرر لأي حد طبعا، بس المسألة برضه محتاجة حد يكمل الخناقة في المحاكم و يدافع عن نفسه صح بنقد حق الدولة في التدخل أصلا.

علاقة الانترنت بالناس و الشارع دي مرتبطة بمدى تنوع الناس اللي بتدخل على النت و بتشارك بشكل فعال، و درجة التشبيك بين مجتمعات الانترنت المختلفة و قد ايه المجتمعات دي مفوتة على العالم خارج الانترنت (يعني مثلا المدونات تأثيرها عالي بسبب شبكة تربطها بالحركات السياسية و الاعلام التقليدي و كثير من الفنانين و الكتاب ).

و على فكرة الأسئلة دي صميم شغلي أنا و منال مش بس بنواجها في المدونات.

تجربتنا معتدمة على امكانات و خبرات تكنولوجية عالية نسبيا، لكن ميمنعش أن ممكن تتعلب و تبقى في متناول ايدين ناس امكاناتهم (أو الوقت اللي مستعدين يضحوا بيه) أقل بكثير، قبل اختراع المدونات كان في ماس قادرة على أنها تعمل صفحات مشابهة تماما، لكن لما تحول الموضوع لبرامج سهلة الاستخدام و واسعة الانتشار بقى التدوين يشمل أعداد أكبر من الناس و تنوع أكثر.

و ده برضه واحدة من الحاجات اللي بنحاول نعملها، ازاي نخلي التكنولوجيا ليها معني لعموم الناس و ازاي تمكنهم من غير ما تبسط الدنيا و تسطحها، و ازاي خبرتنا المكتسبة من تجربتنا (و تجربة غيرنا) ممكن تتاح لأخرين بشكل تلقائي (ده غير التبرع بوقتنا و مجهودنا و مواردنا طبعا).

في النهاية أي حد متعلم بيعرف مبادئ اللغة الانجليزية و يعرف يستخدم جوجل و هوتميل قادر على أنه يعمل موقع بدرجة ثراء (تقني) عالية طالما أنها مستعدة تبذل مجهود. و توسيع الموضوع عن الفئة دي (اللي هي مش صغيرة أصلا) و تخفيض الجهد المطلوب موضوع يعمل عليه ألاف من جميع أنحاء العالم، و ادعولنا بس :-)

موضوع التجاوزات الاباحية ده مش عارف الناس بتقف عنده ليه، اللي مش عاجبه بكس أمه ميقراش و يدور على موقع تاني، و بعدين ما أحنا أسلوبنا كله ركيك و عربي و انجليزي منيل و أخطاء لغوية و نحوية يعني مش مسألة قباحة بس، أحنا كده و بنعبر عن نفسنا كده، و اللي قابلنا عارف أننا بنتكلم كده فعلا و الlogout يفوت جمل.

You are right the fight must go on but where? I think that the courtroom is not the place. My layers advised me to cut my hair short in order not to provoke the judge and I remember the prosecutor asking me whether I “really” was a Muslim not being content with my template answer “elhamdulillah”. My case is not about the Internet publishing – after all I am denying my involvement in the affair obeying my lawyer’s advice – it’s about my fathers’ poetry, its inherent meanings and the expressive language. The hypocrisy is deeply rooted in the minds of people and is actually a strategy of survival. Cyber-activity is an effective strategy for untangling this maze of lies that protect people from the pressure of reality. But mind you that the dominant conventions form the foundation of the fortress that guards “our identity” and that delicate emotional balance of naivety and wisdom which is so valuable in this ancient land. Disturbing that balance may seem to be a noble task but in reality only stalking your own lies can produce liberation and is truly the noblest of tasks. I am not at all sure that I should be proponing a change in moral standards of the Egyptian people. No matter how confident I am that such changes are imminent, forcing people to accept the poetic deviations of my fathers genius at court is akin to standing up for the length of my hair or showing proof of my religious identity in court. Defending my “innocence” according to my lawyers plan implies lying, while a frank confession would squarely land me in prison cell. The case should be dropped altogether as a complete nuisance for it is the late poet who should be brought to the courtroom not his son. Naguib Sururs’ poem is a powerful weapon of lies-destruction and I am content with my status of “having been found in possession” of it. My self-imposed exile is sweet and sour enough for me to use for my advancement and advantage. As for the valiant Egyptian bogglers that you are, I congratulate you and wish you all the best in your endeavors. My only advise to you: be smart, use Tor! A court is the very last resort for a netizen. Avoid being discovered. Change identities. Strike and hide. Stalk yourself before you stalk your government! %;^)

I'm not denying one must choose the right battle and battleground, and I totally respect the decision that your particular case was not the right one to fight.

I'm also not stupid, I do not assume fighting the fight implies winning it.

but this is a battle that starts in courts IMO, the state relies on many ambiguities, no law clearly states they can control what happens on the internet, a proper case can be used to impose pressure for a clarified postion, and a rallying point for the international community.

hiding my identity is pretty useless for me, our mission is not to write and produce content, that's hardly the most important aspect of manalaa.net, our mission is to help people use technology, to build better technology and empower people, to do that we need to have a known face and a known place, we need to meet and engage people, tor can't help me here.

all I'm saying is sooner or later someone will have to fight it in court, not nessecarly out of her choice, they might drag her there.

أحنا شاركنا في فعاليات سياسية نظمتها كفاية، و الحملة الشعبية و شباب من أجل التغيير و الاشتراكيين الثوريين، و الاأخوان المسلمين و النقابات المهنية و جماعة الشارع لنا و غيرهم، و دي كلها فعاليات مفتوحة لأي حد مش مقفولة على عضوية ولا حاجة، و شاركنا فيها عشان كل المجموعات المختلفة دي مطالبها و مبادئها أحنا موافقين عليها بغض النظر عن أي خلافات ايديولوجيا عامة أو حتى اختلاف على أسلوب العمل

و بالنسبة لمساعدة الناس في النشر على النت بنساعد كل حد بغض النظر عن فكرهم ايه و توجهم ايه

لو عايز تشارك بشكل عام تابع الأجندة هنا أما لو عايز تشارك بنشاط أكتر يبقى اتعرف على الأحزاب و الجماعات المختلفة و اختار تحب تنضم لمين، و أقرب ناس لينا و ان كانوا نايمين اليومين دول هما شباب من أجل التغيير

well it is egyptian reality as me and manal see it, our writing is full of opinions and speculations try to seek other sources to balance things out.

as for the ipod being a western product, well the very blog that won the prize was built using technology mostly developed by the west.

I love all sorts of gadgets and a decent mp3 player is a great thing to have, a very useful thing to have so the IPOd is welcome, my nasty comment was just there because I have to complain about something and because I'm no fan of apple.

and yes off course the best thing about it all is the feeling of solidarity, recognition and support.

بس موضوع المانش ده غريب هو ليه عليه جوايز أصلا ده موضوع بسيط جدا كل الحكاية بتروح المعدية و تقطع تذكرة و خلاص.

و متعرفش جت ازاي ايه دي باينة زي الشمس، شركة العلاقات العامة الأمريكية اللي أنا أجرتها تنظملنا المظاهرات عملت حفلة كبيرة عزمت فيها ال12 نفر بتوع لجنة التحكيم من أنحاء العالم و نشطاء صحفيين بلا حدود و شوية من اللي شغالين في الراديو الألماني اياه و طبعا كان فيه خمرة و حريم كتير و هاتك يا هدايا و أظرف مقفولة محدش عارف فيها ايه، و زيادة في الاحتياط سجلنا كل حاجة فيديو و هما طبها سكروا جامد و ما أدراك ما الفيديو بس يعني احتياطا يعني.

و أنت فاهم الباقي بقى

أنا مش محتاج أتعرف على الأخر أنا بحتك بمنتجات أبل كتير و بكره اللي جابوهم و الipod بالذات مثال للتكنولوجيا لما تتحول لصرعة و فشخرة و غسيل مخ بدل ما تبقى أداة مفيدة و وسيلة للتواصل و التعبير

و الipod shuffle بالذات اللي حاجة تشل، شاللوا الشاشة و خلوا البتاع بيشتغل عشوائي قصرا و باعوه أغلى من أي جهاز تاني في شاشة و امكانيات أكتر و سوقوا عجز الجهاز و نقص امكانياته على أنه أسلوب حياة و حاجة ما بعد حداثية.

من منظور حد بيشتغل في مجال التنمية بالتكنولوجيا شركات زي أبل و و صن مآسي كبرى، حتى مايكروسوفت تعتبر شركة ذات التزام اجتماعي أفضل منهم.
