from: Austin American-Statesman thanx: Hany Ramadan
im pretty new to the whole political issue, but i have to admit that im truly impressed for the existance of ppl like you regardless of the nature and the intention behind it all... be it a pure loyalty to the country... be it looking for fame and fortune... be it looking for freedom... bottom line is there is still some real Egyptians alive!!
i see you being too concerned about the political freedom... to live in a country where we have a choice... but since u guys seem too open minded, let me throw few questions here testing ur preception of freedom... how about social freedom??? i dont think the idea of a female president will be so acceptable... nor is the idea of a christian one either!!!
unfortunately in our society, only men can be free... women are used and abused... for sex, cleaning and cooking... whats the big difference between "mixing their Martinis" and serving dinner at someone's table just coz he's a husband/brother/father... at least u get paid for mixing martinis n ur job finishes at the end of the shift!!!
منورة
as an individual I'm very much concerned with social freedom, and you are probably correct in asserting that this country would not choose/accept a female president or a christian president at the moment.
the movement while full of individuals who share your thoughts (and full of some of the most independant, and strongest women in the country) is focussed on basic political reform that at least in theory applies to all, many consider this a nessecary step before you can achieve social freedoms.
IMO one way to change how Egyptians view social issues is political engagement, the experience of a non partisan movement taught many an islamist youngster to respect fellow activists regardless of their religion or lack of, and it taught many a liberal and leftists activists that islamist don't nessecary bite.
what I'm trying to say is imagine if we present a serious female presedential candidate now, one with a very good platform, she will not win, but then no one but mubarak will win, she will be compared to mubarak, nour, gom3a and the the joksters and if she is really good people will have to apprieciate that, it might not be enough to accept the idea but it will surely be a step in th right direction.
Ayman nour talked about gender and religious equality in his final rally, he did not avoid these issues because they where divisive, he did not slip into a populist position where tricky issues should be hidden from the masses, he even talked about making sure any jobs made possible by the government (mostly in private sector since he is a liberal) should be split 50% between genders. he talked about unified laws for prayer spaces and other reforms concerned with religious rights.
my point is that's a party that needs to win a mass base talking about these things, they don't shy away from it and that's education for everyone involved.
you want to see change and reform happen in a certain way, join us, be part of the solution so your voice can be heard.
Alaa, now the conspiracy is clear. You conspired with the gov't for the article 76 amendment. You hired thughs to beat you up so you can say: They beat me in demonstrations. You publish all this and all the blogs. Now, who benefited most of the political movement in Egypt last 6 months? YOU!! Shoft el mo2amra :)
Ramy Paranoia!!
I remember a journalist working for PBS covering Nour's trial told me that he finds you more interesting than Nour, actually. And now comes another comparison. The first bit reads:
"Seif is an example of a new style of political activism in the Arab world. He is a virtual dissident, one of the growing legions of reformers whose forte is not ideology but technology. With their keyboard savvy, they are frequently outmaneuvering the ability of the region's autocratic regimes to control information.
In May, Seif achieved notoriety with a blog, or Web journal, describing how truncheon-swinging riot police swept through a crowd of several hundred prodemocracy demonstrators in downtown Cairo. He and his mother were among the protestors.
As Seif shows a visitor a low-resolution video of the May 23 attack on his laptop, he says with a smile that her was beaten with pro-Mubarak placards. The glint of pride in his eyes at the recollection suggests that, at least for him, the regime has lost its patina of invincibility.
"People of different ideologies and with different politics are sitting together for the first time. It's making me optimistic," he says.
Bloggers and online journalists have been imprisoned in Iran, Syria, Bahrain and Tunisia, Internet watchdogs say. But Seif fears no similar crackdown in Egypt.
"The security agencies would love not not just to control the internet but to nuke it," he says. "But half the opposition is made up of government employees that the government depends on to get things done."
Not In Lockstep
As a leader, Ayman Nour is every thing Seif is not. Where Seif is grunge, the politician Nour is flashy. And where Seif is understated, Nour is emphatic and defiant...
heh, maybe I should ask for the full article, this is just too much.
oh and you have to see the glasses now, بقت عروسة بعد الدوكو و الذي منه
Eih ya 3am el7alawa dee... I just hope this blank chest area doesn't have a number on it after the elections. Stay safe.
I didn't know you were running, man -- you got my vote! :) Oh, wait a second, I get none, cause expats are not real egyptians, or they don't know the best interest of the country, or they're stupid, or something .. but I digress; this is supposed to be about your ego. Cheers man, you should make a huge inflatable pink dragon and take it to the demos -- I am sure that will draw some attention :)
now that would be a great idea, where can I get one?

Ahmad
best massage for my ego ever.
Man, I wonder if I would recognize you if you shaved the beard and cut the hair.
Hmm........
the beard is something I have because I'm lazy, the plan is to shave it every other day, but once per week is my top actual record.
you can probably find photos of me without a beard if you browse around.
as for the hair, there is no way I'm cutting it, had to do it in school though, might be able to find an old photo somewhere.
never knew you are Washington ally ... Ya 3ameel.
UPDATE: I guess I need more coffee, didn't read the headline carefully. But still why on earth would an Austin newspaper put such a large photo of you ? you are probably a 3ameel amrekany.
