الكلمة الأفتتاحية للمؤتمر كانت للدكتورة/ مالين تدرس (مركز مجتمع المعرفة) . ثم تحدث الدكتور/ عادل الزعيم عن مكتب البحوث للتنمية الدولية و أمثلة لبعض المشروعات التى تعتمد على البرمجيات الحرة مفتوحة المصدر فى أفريقيا . وايضا تحدث مهندس / أحمد السبكى عن البرمجيات الحرة مفتوحة المصدر فى افريقيا و فلسفة البرمجيات الحرة مفتوحة المصدر.

we took the 7:15 train from Cairo and arrived in el Menya @ 10:20. we were staying at The Gam3eyet El Sa3eed hotel in Abu Qurqas, so we decided to have breakfast first in Menya then head to Abu Qurqas.

We met a fellow Linux user from Menya (Dr. Ahmed), who knew us from the photos, he invited us to breakfast and we had a small talk on how EGLUG can help in doing a seminar about FOSS in the Menya university, which Dr. Ahmed and his collegues will try to organize.

عمال غزل قليوب يخطون خطوة جديدة للحصول علي حقوقهم

أمس 12/3/2005 بدأ عمال أسكو (مصنع العوادم بقليوب) خطوة جديدة من خطوات احتجاجهم ضد خصخصة مصنعهم، حيث يبدأ اعتصام أكثر من خمسين عامل من عمال مصنع قليوب بالاتحاد العام لنقابات عمال مصر – وما زال بقية عمال المصنع مضربين عن العمل ومعتصمين بالمصنع منذ 13/2/2005- حتى تجاب مطالبهم التي تقدموا بها للاتحاد ولم يتلقوا أي رد من الإتحاد رغم اتصالهم اليومي بالمستشار القانوني للاتحاد والذي قابلهم يوم تسليم العريضة، ووعدهم بعرض الأمر علي السيد راشد.

"مش .. كفاية"

 

جاء اليوم الذي نشهد فيه حسني مبارك يعلن على الملأ أنه يطلب تغيير الدستور ليسمح بانتخاب رئيس الجمهورية انتخابا مباشرا بين أكثر من مرشح! جاء اليوم الذي ينزل فيه الديكتاتور عن خيلاءه وعنجهيته ليقر بأن تعديل الدستور ضرورة وأن الانتخابات التنافسية تطور مطلوب!

ما هذا الذي يحدث؟ هل انتهت معركة التغيير الديمقراطي في مصر؟ هل استسلم العدو قبل أن يبدأ القتال الحقيقي؟ هل كسبنا المباراة من جولتها الأولى؟

3rd day: mini FOSS expo (6 p.m to 10 p.m)

From the 28th of January to the 4th of February, Was Asia source I Co organized by The Tactical Technology Collective and Mahiti in Bangalore, India.

I just noticed that we passed the 1000 nodes milestone, I suppose thats a long way for our website.

is anyone wondering about the rate by which eglug is growing?

I made a crude plot of eglug's growth with time using.

green is for nodes and red is for users.

what do you make of it?

even though the growth is steady our active members are still among the first 200 (most among the first 100 actually), how to we engage the new members?

At last YoussefAssad Got for us the solution ( i`m posting cuz he is a little busy )

first of all, we will consider that the issue is too grey to be covered either in the charter or by discussing. So, we need to do two things

1. Make a note to amend the charter.
2. decide who becomes admin.

about the second part As for who wins, the current admins will get together and decide. This is the only way to get over this thing. We will decide by tomorrow noon.

The current team of admins got together just now to decide what to do about the election situation. We have decided the following:

1. The next time the charter comes up for modification, we need to fix this issue (by saying that we use cron to close the election poll)
2. There will be ONE person leaving the admin team and TWO persons joining it. I (YoussefAssad) will be leaving and both Conceptor and Ezabi will be joining it. This is effective immediately.

Sorry for the mess; we're a young community. Our charter is also young and it will learn from our mistakes. Thanks everyone for your patience, and thanks to Roberto Ramsis for the idea to make both admins.
