seems like a normal story about some Plutonium leakage in Egypt, the real story is why its being promoted.

anyway the whole thing brought to memory some great Folkloric Nuclear stories.

once upon a time a medical research lab in Cairo was doing its spring cleaning and decided to get rid of some radioactive material, the thing was to be transported with other waste and garbage in an open truck.

Murphy being the most fundemental law in the universe the needle fell from the truck, and was later found by a farmer.

Giving up on ever migrating my old site

ok I finally decided to give up on ever migrating our old phpwiki based website.

I never get the time to do it, and I keep delaying adding new content until its done, manal doesn't seem to be interested enough in this website to begin with.

so I'll just start from scratch. expect new content soon.

finaly manalaa.net is on its new home, and we're running drupal CVS (yes many things will be borked).

I'm migrating stuff from PHPWiki manualy so its taking quite sometime, as usual we'll never get around to doing the webpage properly, but at least this time we got lots of bandwidth and space.

we also decided to donate space and to help anyone with a worthy idea for a website, or anyone who seeks to publish speech that is censored in Egypt (even if we strongly disagree with it).

we started by hosting 20M the 20 March movement for change an Egyptian a decentralized leftists collective; here is hoping 20M helps the egyptian left get over its long history of problems and infighting.

Anti Torture Demonstration

Today is the International Day in Support of Torture Victims, we had a small demonstration in cairo today, this is probably the first anti-torture demonstration in ages and frankly it SUCKED although the people where very receptive to the topic, should I be happy that we finaly had a public demonstration about this? should I be angry at the bad organization? I probably have no right to complain alot since I didn't help in organizing at all.

Its official, we started a ?NewEgyptianLug eglug, the fork was abit ugly but things cooled down now, this is a very exciting project, we're going to try to do things differently, very differently, we're aiming for a very dynamic ever changing website, for a very open and democratic process (almost anrchist even) and of course lots of fun.

When you recieve an email that starts with "Hello I'm still alive" in a serious tone; not to indicate that its been long time since the last email, its almost always an email from Palestine. Today we recieved an email from ?WaelZahab who is working in ?BrazilCamp in Rafah, he says the situation is very bad, he feels the world is too ?BoredWithTheOldNews to care. ?WaelZahab sent us a these BrazilCampLetters written by 13-14 years old kids living there, please spread them around.

Alaa finaly launched the M20Website, started work on a NewLinuxEgyptWebsite both based on the almost perfect DrupalCms.

?SlashDotInterview turrned out to be a great success, Alaa is a famous guy now, everyone loves him, this time there was almost no racism (we must have misjudged slashdotters then) and very few trolls even though we got 530+ comments. Alaa met wonderful people, made new friends, got invited to Orkut and we did not get slashdotted.

Man look at the racist comments, we never could stomach slashdot, the trick ?MadFarmAnimalz tells us is to browse at +5!!!.

Anyway this is the first time we expose ourselves to racism (is this how it feels to be black, female, homosexual, jewish, copt, palestinian.... hell its probably even worse), but what scares us the most is how misinformed slashdotters are,maybe we should start a ?SlashDottersGuideToEgypt one day.

We where not organized, we did everything wrong, it was a great mess, it was the best day in my life, it couldn't have been better, the 1st ?LinuxEgypt ?InstallFest was a great success, we got around 3000 visitors, had a great time and we're completley burned up.

Today I was googleing to see how visible is our ?InstallFest, one of the results was this ingenious example of ReverseSpam, I'm sure the poor irish lug now hates all egyptians. anyway this prompted me to start a MostStupidEgyptians page, Mr. ?IbrahimHassan is my first candidate, if darwin is to be believed he must be dead by now.
