Backup Your Blog

from ikhnaton2.com on Sat, 22/07/2006 - 12:00

Backup your blog could be an easy task if you're running it on your hosting space. You'll probably just backup the database using phpMyAdmin and backup files using FTP. However, backup could be a hard task for bloggers using free services like Blogspot, BlogSome or Wordpress.com.

Why taking backup?
Backup is important because your priceless post could gone one day due to a hack attack, hardware failure on your blogging service provider, blocking your site or migration from blog to blog!!!

I've searched a little for ways to make blog backup easy, I'll try to introduce them here.

Thirty-five?

by Alb Sayed from albsayed.weblogs.us on Wed, 31/05/2006 - 04:43
One of the interesting aspects of blogging is that you get a view of how a person thinks about a certain subject. Be it dating, politics, religion, society, food, people, technology, or simple happenings in the person’s daily life. What you have then, is the person’s thoughts and opinions in the form of words they [...]

Alaa detained for 15 days

from pronco.manalaa.net on Wed, 10/05/2006 - 18:21

Originally by Socrates:

Alaa Abd El-Fatah was arrested today together with around ten more activists during a peaceful demonstration in solidarity with sixty activists who were arrested over the past two weeks in a non-violent sit in as well who were held in custody for two weeks under investigation for "crimes" that if anything would raise only mockery including: humiliating the president, possession of "publishing equipment" (graffiti spray) and blocking traffic. The first group of activists arrested two weeks ago was supposed to have their cases reviewed by prosecution today, so as to release or renew holding them under investigation. In solidarity with them 200 lawyers approached as a defense council, a number of judges, and a number of activists among whom were Alaa and his colleagues gathered around the court house. Authorities denied the activists entry to the court house, in addition to attempting to present the "detainees" files only, and not the detainees themselves to prosecution. For hours, Alaa and his fellow activists shouted slogans against the government, sang and showed solidarity with their detained fellow activists. At the end of the demonstration police forces surrounding the group increased, refused to let them leave and started picking those to arrest, Alaa and ten others. They were taken to the nearby police station were they were denied lawyers, or any visitors. Lawyers are now standing outside the station just monitoring in case the arrested activists are taken somewhere else, which is exactly what happened. Three of them were taken blindfolded to another police station and were released later.

Methods for Tracking Blogs Comments

from ikhnaton2.com on Fri, 05/05/2006 - 16:37

In the blogoshpere world, most of the times I write comments that is important to me and want to keep an eye on interesting discussions. So, I used some methods to accomplish this and I'll explore them here.

Client-side Methods:

Bookmark all posts that's I have commented or which are interested to me to follow and tag it with common tag.

  • Create a blog for comments:

Some people create blogs and post their own comments twice, one of the original post page and second on there comment blogs with the original post URL and use this blog to follow up there blogs. I do something similar here in my drupal-based blog. Created a new content type (using felxinode) with fields like: Post Title, Post URL, Comment Body and Comment Date/Time. I used it for a while and you can find it under Linkblogs tag. However, after few posts, I found this boring and inpractical.

Weblogestan: à l’école de la blogsphère iranienne.

by Sami Ben Gharbia from kitab.nl on Sun, 16/04/2006 - 14:16

quitters only need apply

I was chatting with a mate of mine about blogging. And it reminded me of smoking. Once you start smoking, it’s very difficult to quit (and no, it’s not an emotional habit - it’s physiological). As they say, once a smoker, always a “quitter”, never a non-smoker (nevermind the support groups and the fancy leaflets).I [...]

Arabic Blogging Services

from ikhnaton2.com on Sun, 04/12/2005 - 16:31

Today, I receive an email from Maktoob to announce starting of their blogging service. I remembered from a month ago, I see another arabic company (Albawaba) begining this service too.

After some searching, I found 2 other companies that providing blogging services recently. Thinking that this's good that some arabic companies begin to occupy with recent technologies, but none of them are Egyptian . May be I should propose begining this service in my company. Of course, I can't forget the generous Manalaa.net free drupal hosting offer (that I'm using it now) but I don't think Alaa gonna make it a wide public service.
