Tel Rumeida, Palestine

by Alb Sayed from albsayed.weblogs.us on Sat, 26/08/2006 - 19:01
We frequently witness images of Palestinian children protesting Israeli occupation by throwing rocks at the occupation soldiers, their (armored) vehicles and tanks. The Israeli military usually responds by firing at the children, some are wounded, above the waist, but it’s all in the name of “keeping the peace”, right?Of course not, but let’s assume so [...]

Most effective arab fighting force?

by The Sandmonkey from sandmonkey.org on Fri, 25/08/2006 - 17:03
A lot of people, many egyptians and arabs included, have believed the Hype that Hezbollah is "the most effective arab fighting force". Well, this report compares its perfromance with that of the Egyptian army in 1973 and the Jordanian army in 67.More serious misperceptions are equally obvious. For example, instead of dismissing Nasrallah's boasts, manycommentators [...]

‘Were You Scared?’

by Alb Sayed from albsayed.weblogs.us on Wed, 23/08/2006 - 21:09
I came across an excellent post on a Lebanese blog describing a wounded Hizb’Allah fighter’s story. Regardless of how you feel about Hizb’Allah, I think the post is well worth your time for how well written it is, if nothing else.Excerpt:Suddenly I asked, “were you scared?”He looked at me. The mysterious and piercing look in [...]

NSA Assisting Israel

by Alb Sayed from albsayed.weblogs.us on Fri, 04/08/2006 - 17:47
Lest there was any doubt that the savagery inflicted upon Lebanon does not have US neo-conservative hands behind it, this article should do the trick. The US intelligence agency, the National Security Agency (NSA), is providing intelligence to Israel about the possibility of Syria and Iran assisting Hezbullah with weapons. The article does not reveal whether [...]

Lebanon

by AT from threaddump.org/tblog on Fri, 21/07/2006 - 01:57

I was thinking a lot over the last 9 days about Lebanon and what is going on there. I was tempted to post but felt I had nothing to say or add to what seems to be an insane situation. During the past days I focused on trying to reach one of my best friends who lives in Lebanon with his wife and two beautiful children. I finally was able to reach him and that was of no comfort to me because the situation he described to me is utterly horrible.

My friend, who is also a German national, has one of two options; both are horrible:

1. Take his wife, children, and belongings and drive over to the Syrian border where he can then catch a flight somewhere where they can be safe exposing himself and his family on the road to Syria to horrific danger.

2. Take an evacuation convoy with the German embassy and basically leave everything he worked hard for behind because he cannot carry heavy luggage with him (evacuation rules imposed by the embassy which makes sense anyway).
